6 Bollywood Movies Every Gen Z Kid Grew Up Watching

Every generation has a handful of films that become part of their childhood. They’re the movies we watched on family movie nights, quoted with friends at school, and revisited every time they appeared on TV. Long before streaming made every film instantly available, these were the titles many of us knew by heart.

1. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)

Few Bollywood films are as recognizable as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. With Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan all sharing the screen, it became the ultimate family drama for an entire generation.

From “Bole Chudiyan” to “You Are My Soniya,” the soundtrack remains just as popular today, while memorable dialogues and emotional family moments continue to make the film a favourite during festivals and family gatherings. Not to mention, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character Poo became a pop culture icon, with her fashion, confidence, and unforgettable one-liners influencing a generation of Bollywood fans till today.

2. Koi… Mil Gaya (2003)

Before superhero films became common in Bollywood, Koi… Mil Gaya introduced audiences to Rohit and his unforgettable alien friend, Jadoo. Hrithik Roshan’s performance, the film’s emotional story, and its message about friendship made it an instant classic.

Children everywhere wanted a friend like Jadoo, while the film’s songs, dance hooksteps, and magical moments quickly became part of pop culture. More importantly, Koi… Mil Gaya laid the foundation for the Krrish franchise, giving Hindi cinema its first successful superhero film franchise. 

3. Taare Zameen Par (2007)

Few Bollywood films connected with families the way Taare Zameen Par did. Starring Darsheel Safary and Aamir Khan, the film opened conversations about dyslexia and challenged the way many parents, teachers, and students thought about learning and education. It reminded an entire generation that every child learns differently and that patience, understanding, and encouragement can make all the difference.

Beyond its powerful story, songs like “Maa” and “Taare Zameen Par” remain some of Bollywood’s most emotional tracks. More than a decade later, the film continues to find new audiences because its message still resonates; it even prompted creators to make a spiritual sequel to the film, Sitaare Zameen Par, in 2025. 

4. Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006)

Golmaal: Fun Unlimited became one of the defining comedy films of the 2000s. Directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, and Paresh Rawal, the film introduced audiences to a group of friends whose outrageous schemes led to one hilarious situation after another.

Its unforgettable one-liners, memorable characters, and nonstop comedy made it a staple on television, turning it into a film many families watched over and over again. It also launched one of Bollywood’s most successful comedy franchises, with multiple sequels that continue to entertain audiences today.

5. Bhoothnath (2008)

Amitabh Bachchan’s lovable ghost and his friendship with Banku turned Bhoothnath into a family favourite. Rather than relying on scares, the film balanced comedy, emotion, and fantasy, making it one of those movies children wanted to watch again and again. Its heartwarming story still makes it a popular pick for family movie nights.

The bond between Bhoothnath and Banku gave the film its heart, and years later, the film remains a comfort watch that reminds many fans of weekend movie nights with family. 

6. 3 Idiots (2009)

While many people first watched 3 Idiots as children, its themes only become more meaningful with age. Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi delivered a story about friendship, education, and following your passion that continues to resonate years later. Its humour, memorable characters, and iconic moments have made it one of Bollywood’s most beloved films of all time.

With the iconic phrase “All Is Well,” the film became far more than a comedy. Its humour, emotional moments, and memorable soundtrack made it one of Bollywood’s most beloved films, and it’s still a movie many people return to whenever they need a laugh or a little inspiration.
