The Celebrity Cameos You Probably Missed in These Bollywood Movies
Bollywood movies love a little surprise! Some of the biggest celebrity names pop up in unexpected scenes, while familiar faces make brief appearances before their careers take off. These hidden gems give fans another reason to revisit their favorite films. At Sanskar Savvy, we love to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! with movies and the interesting stories behind some of our favorite movies, and what better way to do that than with a fun Bollywood rewatch? Here are six cameos and appearances to look out for!
1. Before the Director’s Chair
Karan Johar in “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995)
Long before he became one of Bollywood’s most recognizable filmmakers, Karan Johar played Rocky, one of Raj’s (Shah Rukh Khan) friends, in this iconic romance. Did you know that his appearance wasn’t pre-planned? Shah Rukh had the idea of bringing Karan in after the actor originally cast as Raj’s friend fell ill and couldn’t travel to Switzerland for the shoot. Impromptu moments like these often make great on-screen stories and memories for fans!
2. A Familiar Face on The Show
Farah Khan in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998)
We know Farah Khan for her blockbuster choreography, but did you spot her in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai?” She makes brief appearances in the film during “The Neelam Show.” She plays a new girlfriend in a brief background moment during a fun discussion on the show, for fangirl Anjali. Did you catch this, or will you rewatch to experience it?
3. Blink, and You’ll Miss Her
Kiran Rao in “Dil Chahta Hai” (2001)
Filmmaker Kiran Rao worked as an assistant director on this much-loved coming-of-age film and also appears on screen. Her brief appearance makes a fun little discovery for fans who love learning more about the people behind their favorite movies. On-screen, she plays a friend of Deepa’s during the hotel lobby and pool sequences in Goa. Funny enough, she appears when Aamir Khan’s character tries to hide behind a plant, making the scene funnier for fans!
4. A Kind Stranger on a Flight
Amitabh Bachchan in “English Vinglish” (2012)
Amitabh Bachchan makes a special appearance in Sridevi’s “English Vinglish”. He plays a fellow passenger who helps Shashi (Sridevi) during her flight to New York. Their short interaction adds a lovely moment to the film. His friendliness and warmth toward Shashi reinforce the film’s central theme: language is not a measure of dignity or worth. His kindness and acceptance validate Shashi’s feelings and her desire for self-respect.
5. A Disguise Worth a Second Look
Hrithik Roshan in “Don 2” (2011)
Can you recognize Hrithik Roshan anywhere? His surprise appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s “Don 2” gives fans a fun detail to catch during the party sequence. Here, Shah Rukh’s character disguises himself, wearing a ‘Hrithik’ mask to hide at the party. If you watch closely, though, you’ll notice the scenes were shot cleverly so the character has five fingers instead of Hrithik’s well-known six, hinting that it was really Shah Rukh undercover.
Watch closely and see if you notice!
6. Another Alien Arrives
Ranbir Kapoor in “PK” (2014)
As “PK” wraps up, the film adds a fun twist when PK returns to Earth with a friend! Ranbir Kapoor appears in this sequence as another alien arriving on Earth, ready to explore the new world and learn tips from his now-experienced friend. His brief appearance adds a playful twist to the ending and leaves viewers on a fun note.
