Rain Couldn’t Cool Ferreira’s Fire: Texas Super Kings Dominate in Shortened Showdown at Broward Stadium

Rain Couldn’t Cool Ferreira’s Fire: Texas Super Kings Dominate in Shortened Showdown at Broward Stadium

The skies opened up, but so did Donovan Ferreira’s bat. In a rain-shortened five-over slugfest, the Texas Super Kings delivered a fireworks-worthy performance at Broward County Stadium, with Ferreira’s explosive 9-ball 37 and Shubham Ranjane’s steady 39 off 17* sealing a commanding 43-run win over the Washington Freedom.

The match marked the first rain-affected game of the 2025 Cognizant Major League Cricket season, but fans were still treated to a showcase of global talent and big hits in South Florida.

Ferreira Turns Up the Heat in Lauderhill

With TSK captain Faf du Plessis resting, stand-in skipper Marcus Stoinis and Daryl Mitchell opened the innings. After Mitchell struggled to connect, Texas made a game-changing move: bring in Donovan Ferreira.

In just a few balls, Ferreira torched Mitchell Owen, the same bowler who took 5 wickets in his last game, for 28 runs in one over. Backed by the consistent Shubham Ranjane, the Super Kings ended their five overs at 87/2, a total that proved out of reach for the Freedom.

Burger and Spin Shut It Down

South African quick Nandre Burger struck twice in the opening over, removing both Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Maxwell, while Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad kept the pressure on with sharp spin and tight lines.

Even with a six from Mitchell Owen, Freedom couldn’t keep up, finishing at just 44/4, falling well short of the target.

South Florida Cricket Scene Is Buzzing

This match is just one example of how Major League Cricket is taking over Broward County. From thrilling finishes to international stars lighting up the pitch, MLC 2025 is building serious momentum and Lauderhill is right in the middle of it.
