Shimron Hetmyer Strikes Again as Seattle Orcas Win Third Straight Match

Shimron Hetmyer delivered another sensational performance to help the Seattle Orcas notch their third consecutive win in Major League Cricket 2025, this time defeating the San Francisco Unicorns by 4 wickets with just three balls remaining. With this victory, Seattle continues its late-season surge and moves closer to claiming the final playoff spot.

Hetmyer Powers Another Comeback

Chasing 169 on a damp, slow outfield, the Orcas got off to a shaky start. Xavier Bartlett removed both openers inside five overs, and the team managed only 31 runs in the Powerplay. Things worsened when Karima Gore struck twice in the ninth over, dismissing Sikandar Raza and Shayan Jahangir in back-to-back deliveries.

With the team at 56 for 4 at the halfway mark, pressure was mounting. That changed the moment Shimron Hetmyer walked in. On just his second ball, he launched a massive six off Gore. In the very next over, he took on Hassan Khan with another towering hit, instantly shifting momentum.

Unfazed by the climbing required run rate, Hetmyer anchored the chase with a blistering 78 not out, sealing the win in the final over for the third match in a row. His finishing touch continues to define Seattle’s resurgence and puts the Orcas just one win away from a potential playoff berth.

Orcas Bowlers Keep Unicorns in Check

Earlier in the evening, Seattle showed intent from the start. Harmeet Singh struck in the very first over to dismiss the in-form Matthew Short, who had scored four half-centuries in a row before this match.

While Finn Allen (23) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (35) provided a strong start, they fell in quick succession. Tim Seifert held the middle overs with a patient 31, but it was Sanjay Krishnamurthi who led the charge with 41 off 28 balls, including four huge sixes. A fiery delivery from Waqar Salamkheil eventually ended Krishnamurthi’s knock.

Romario Shepherd gave MI New York fans a glimpse of his power with two late sixes in just three balls, but with limited time at the crease, the Unicorns closed their innings at 168 for 5, just short of what they needed to contain Hetmyer and the Orcas.
