Bollywood Celebrities’ Growing Presence at Cannes 2026

The annual Cannes Film Festival is one of the biggest global stages for cinema, couture, and celebrity culture. Every year, the festival highlights anticipated films from all over the world, which are evaluated by an international jury for the Palme d’Or, a prestigious achievement in the film industry.

What is exciting about this event is the growing representation of South Asian artists across the films, jury panels, and among the invitees. While fashion remains a major topic of conversation at Cannes, this year’s show also reflects the continued expansion of South Asian celebrities into global entertainment spaces. With so many South Asian personalities making appearances throughout the festival, several red-carpet moments in particular quickly became major talking points online, especially within Bollywood and fashion circles.

At Sanskar Savvy, we want to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! with South Asian artists as they continue to reach some of entertainment’s biggest stages.

Tara Sutaria’s Cannes Debut

This year highlights Tara Sutaria’s first appearance at Cannes. The actress received praise for embracing classic vintage-inspired styling throughout the festival, with monochrome couture looks and traditional Hollywood-inspired silhouettes. She sparked interest across entertainment and social media alike for gracing the event ahead of joining Kallisto Miorah by Riya Jagwani as the brand ambassador.

Her debut also highlights how younger Bollywood actors are establishing their presence at international events and becoming part of conversations beyond film promotions. Honoured for celebrating female creativity in films at the Red Sea Film Foundation’s Women in Cinema Gala, Cannes spotlighted Tara’s growing influence and growth in Indian cinema on a prestigious global platform.

Alia Bhatt Embraces Traditional Glamour

For her second appearance at Cannes, Alia Bhatt returned to the festival as a global ambassador for L’Oreal Paris. Her appearances quickly became among the festival’s most-discussed fashion moments, especially her ivory-inspired look styled with traditional Indian accessories, including a bindi, nath, and payal. These styling choices sparked conversations about how she seamlessly combines international couture with traditional Indian and South Asian elements. This is something she was credited for during her 2024 Met Gala look as well.

This look was specifically for the inauguration of the Bharat Pavilion, which extended the growing visibility of Indian cinema and culture at the festival. Through her projects in Hollywood and luxury brand partnerships, she remains one of the most visible South Asian actresses on the international stage.

Bollywood Saree Moments on the International Stage

Among other viral appearances this year are Huma Qureshi and Aditi Rao Hydari, both of whom embraced traditional Indian-inspired styling during the festival.

Diana Penty Blending Modern Indian and Western Aesthetics

Continuing the incorporation of South Asian culture and couture, Diana Penty was also acclaimed for styling a custom golden saree by Manish Malhotra at the Cannes 2026 Bharat Pavilion. She merged elements of Indian artistry with contemporary couture fashion, balancing between tradition and classic international red-carpet glamour. She was also the official representative and ambassador for BMW India, and participated in multiple interviews discussing the increasing global influence of Indian cinema and fashion.
