Shah Rukh Khan’s Knight Riders Group Builds a Landmark Cricket Stadium in the U.S.

Cricket is gaining new ground in the United States, and one of the most influential pushes comes from an unexpected but familiar figure, Shah Rukh Khan. His Knight Riders Group has completed a major project in Pomona, California, a dedicated cricket stadium designed to support the sport’s growth and give fans an opportunity to Celebrate, Explore, Connect!  in a country where it has long been overshadowed by baseball and American football.

A New Home for Cricket in California

The stadium sits within the Fairplex complex in Pomona, not far from Los Angeles. It will serve as the home venue for the LA Knight Riders, the franchise competing in Major League Cricket (MLC). Construction has been underway for several years, and the facility is now positioned to become a central hub for professional cricket in the region.

What sets this venue apart is its ownership model. It is the first cricket stadium in the U.S. built and operated by a franchise group, a structure common in global football but still relatively rare in cricket. The Knight Riders Group, which also owns teams in the IPL, CPL, and ILT20, is extending its long-term investment strategy into the American market.

The Future of the 2028 Olympics

Cricket will return to the Olympics in 2028, and Los Angeles organizers have been evaluating suitable venues. The Pomona stadium is widely expected to be a strong candidate for hosting both men’s and women’s matches. While final confirmation is still pending, earlier planning documents pointed to a cricket venue within the Fairplex grounds, aligning closely with this project.

If selected, the stadium would play a central role in bringing Olympic cricket back for the first time in more than a century.

Leadership Perspective

Shah Rukh Khan has expressed enthusiasm about giving the LA Knight Riders a permanent base and contributing to cricket’s expansion in the U.S. Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Sports, described the stadium as a significant step in their broader plan to support the sport’s development across new regions.

What This Means for Cricket in the U.S.

The new stadium signals a growing commitment to establishing cricket as a mainstream sport in America. With MLC gaining traction and the Olympics on the horizon, the timing is well-suited for increased visibility, stronger infrastructure, and a more engaged fan base.

The Knight Riders Group’s investment adds momentum to a movement that has been building quietly for years and now has a physical home to support its next phase.
