Karan Aujla: From the Ground Up and Into the Sky
By Dhaanvi Singh
I will be honest with you. I didn’t know every single word of every single Karan Aujla song, but that didn’t matter even a little bit. I loved the songs I knew. I knew why people went absolutely feral when his name was on a lineup, but going in, I did not imagine how mesmerizing his Toronto show at the Scotiabank Arena would actually be.
What made this concert stand apart was not just the performance. It was the intention behind it. The production team structured the entire show into three acts, each introduced by a short film on the screens before the music began, and the concept was thought through in a way that is rare for a live show in any genre.
Act One was about the before. The hustle, the grind, the years of effort that no one photographs because there is nothing glamorous about patience. The songs in this act carried that weight, and the staging reflected it. There was something grounding about starting there and being reminded that the person on stage was not always on a stage.
Act Two opened with the moment of the night. The stage floor split open, and he ascended from underneath, sailing out above the crowd on an aerial rig. The stadium just completely lost it, not just because of the entrance that set the tone for the rest of the night, but also because of the setlist he played during this act. This was my absolute favourite part of the whole night; the love in his voice and in the air was just something else.
Act Three was the arrival with the fame, the crowds, and the destination of the journey since Act One. The production shifted completely; everything carried more grandeur and energy. The fireworks and flames felt bigger and brighter, the colors lighting the floor from below, and a spectacle that made you forget about the world and just try to capture it with your own eyes.
Throughout all three acts, the dancers never stopped. There was hip-hop and Bhangra with formations that actually complemented his singing, rather than just filling space. There were moments when a specific step or a transition between styles synced so precisely with the music that the whole crowd reacted to the choreography, not just the song. That was definitely not an easy thing to pull off.
And then there was him. Karan Aujla performing was a specific thing to witness. He is not loved by one part of the South Asian community. He is loved by all of it, and his show explained why. The three acts were both a production choice and a reflection of his life’s journey. He embodies many of the South Asian community’s values, such as family, love, and hard work. Karan Aujla also stayed rooted in his language and culture throughout the show, and you could hear him switching between Punjabi and English.
At any point in the concert, there was so much happening on stage that you would think your eyes might wander. They didn’t; Karan Aujla held the room without demanding it. His love for what he did showed not only in his gestures and speeches but also in the way he moved and fed off the crowd. Nights like this one are a reminder of why live music still hits differently, and why Sanskar Savvy will always be here to Celebrate, Explore, Connect you to the stories, the stages, and the artists that make it all worth showing up for.
