Inside A.R. Rahman’s “The Wonderment Tour”: What Fans Experienced at the Global Premiere
Thirty thousand fans filled the Mumbai arena with excitement, singing along to their favorite A.R. Rahman tracks and sharing the kind of energy only a true music icon can inspire. The global premiere of “The Wonderment Tour” brought people together from all walks of life, united by sound, story, and emotion. To give fans a closer look at what to expect from this global tour, Sanskar Savvy’s music ambassadors, Parijatha Hangal and Khushboo Dialani to cover the show from the ground. Their experience captures the heart of a night that truly lived up to our mission to Celebrate. Explore. Connect!
Here’s what they had to say:
“The Mumbai heat hit us hard, but the excitement in the air made us forget all about it. Crowds streamed in from every direction, and despite the 30,000-strong turnout, the entry felt smooth. Volunteers guided us in, signs were clear, and once we stepped inside, it felt like we’d entered a different world, less like a concert and more like a musical dream!
The opening acts set the tone beautifully. From solo performers to bands like Anubha Bajaj and The Yellow Diary, the music felt raw and powerful. The crowd began to sway, sing, and settle into the rhythm of what promised to be a night to remember.
Just as important as the music were the thoughtful details. Free water bottles handed out in the fan zone, accessible food stalls that didn’t require a long trek, and clean, designated areas that made moving around easy. These touches showed how much care had gone into making the audience comfortable.
Then came RJ Malishka, the host for the evening, whose infectious energy kept everyone smiling. Her banter and quick comebacks had the entire stadium laughing, clapping, and even dancing in their seats. She managed to keep the mood light while the anticipation grew.
At exactly 7 PM, the moment we had all been waiting for arrived. A.R. Rahman appeared on stage just as the video backdrop played the introduction to “The Wonderment Tour.” No delays. No fillers. He walked in with the kind of quiet authority that only legends carry. And just like that, he opened with the explosive track, ‘Jai Ho.’
The crowd roared, and from then on, it was three hours of musical brilliance. His band and vocalists delivered one well-synchronized performance after another. Each person on stage matched his rhythm, mirroring the kind of discipline and shared experience that can only come from years of working together.
A major highlight of the night was the arrival of Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe. Their entrance added an entirely new visual layer to the show. With incredible costumes and choreography that blended grace and energy, the dancers added color and movement to Rahman’s timeless sound. Every performance ended with beaming smiles that radiated joy and pride.
The night took an exciting turn when Dhanush stepped onto the stage. His surprise appearance created a wave of excitement in the crowd. He sang alongside Rahman for songs from “Raanjhanaa” and his latest film “Raayan.” Their chemistry was natural, and the performance felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Throughout the night, Rahman was joined by an incredible lineup of vocalists, including Jonita Gandhi, Mohit Chauhan, Sukhwinder Singh, and Hiral Viradia. Each brought something special. Their voices filled the arena as they performed fan favorites like “Tere Bina,” “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” “Kun Faya Kun,” “Fanaa,” and classic tracks from Dil Se.
One of the most emotional moments came during the finale. All the performers returned to the stage to join Rahman in singing “Vande Mataram.” As the opening chords played, confetti flew, fireworks lit up the night sky, and 30,000 people stood together singing “Maa Tujhe Salaam.”
Everything about the event ran on schedule. From the opening set to the very last note, the show stayed on track and well-managed. Free water, clean amenities, clear directions, and a shuttle service partnership with Cityflo made logistics simple and smooth.
We left with full hearts and ears still ringing. The six-hour experience flew by, especially the three hours Rahman commanded the stage. Each moment felt intentional, with every element from the lighting to the setlist designed to serve something bigger than the performance itself.
