History Made in Dallas: Washington Freedom Pull Off Record Chase Against Texas Super Kings

Washington Freedom are on a roll, and now they’ve made Major League Cricket history. Chasing a towering 221 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Mitchell Owen and Andries Gous lit up the scoreboard with a thrilling 119-run partnership, leading their team to the highest successful run chase ever in MLC.

Power-Packed Batting Seals the Deal

After losing Rachin Ravindra early, Owen and Gous took complete control, smashing 119 off just 57 balls for the second wicket. Pace, spin, strategy—none of it worked against the pair’s relentless attack. By the time Owen fell for 89 in the 15th over, the damage was done.

Gous carried on calmly, finishing unbeaten on 80, with help from Glenn Phillips and a late cameo by skipper Glenn Maxwell (20 off 12). Freedom reached 223 with just two balls to spare, handing the Texas Super Kings a tough loss on their home turf.

Owen Shines With Bat and Ball

Mitchell Owen wasn’t done after his batting masterclass. Earlier in the match, he grabbed three crucial wickets, including the prized scalp of Faf du Plessis, who had blazed to 69 off 31 balls. That all-around performance solidifies Owen’s breakout season as one of the most valuable players in MLC 2025.

Texas Super Kings Fire Early, Falter Late

The Super Kings started strong after being asked to bat first. Faf du Plessis launched into vintage form, hammering eight fours and four sixes. Support came from Marcus Stoinis (32), Milind Kumar (31), and Shubham Ranjane (26), taking the Kings to 220 for 6. But their bowling unit struggled to contain Freedom’s aggressive batting, with spinner Noor Ahmad’s third over going for 22 runs.

What’s Next

The win pushes Washington Freedom to second on the points table and marks their fourth straight victory. They now get a three-day break before taking on the LA Knight Riders on Thursday, June 26, again at Grand Prairie.

As for the Texas Super Kings, they will look to regroup quickly and reclaim momentum on Tuesday, June 24, when they also face the Knight Riders at home.
