Dastakhat – A Signature on Every Heart

He poured his heart out, and we caught every drop.

I have been following Anuv Jain since “Baarishein,” back when he was building a following but hadn’t yet reached the world. I was there for every single, every collab, every quiet release that somehow always hit right and kept me in his fan club throughout the years. So, standing in the first few rows of his Toronto show in April 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, watching him perform live for the very first time, felt like something I genuinely cannot explain. It’s like witnessing something you believed in from the very beginning finally arriving.

The atmosphere was everything. Everyone was singing, not just the choruses, but every single lyric and every little melody. There were girls literally screaming at the top of their lungs; it was both heartfelt and kind of hilarious. Bubbles floated through the crowd during the softer songs, and the whole room felt romantic and peaceful. This was his first-ever North American show, his first world tour, and, as a fan, it felt surreal to be part of it.

He went off his setlist, and he took our requests. We made him repeat songs because once was genuinely not enough. People of different ages, different backgrounds, different stories, all brought together by one person’s words. His music doesn’t ask you to share his experience, just to recognize the feeling, and you always do, because it’s real.

You could see how much love was landing on him and the overwhelming reality of a full house that knew every word he had ever written. Whether you have had a painful breakup or were completely, stupidly in love, his songs found you right where you were. That’s the thing about Anuv Jain. He’s always been like that, and that’s what made me stick with him all through these years and why I feel so connected to all his music.

This also brings me to the most imperfect perfect moment of the whole night. The crowd had sung every word flawlessly, song after song, for the whole show. Then came “Arz Kiya Hai,” where we jumped to a verse too early, completely and confidently wrong, and Anuv just smirked and kept going with the right lyrics. The whole room caught on, but burst out laughing first. In a night full of beautiful moments, this one took a comic turn.

It is a beautiful and rare thing when an artist’s music sits with you in your best and worst times. Being in that room with just a guy and his guitar, it felt like flipping through my whole life and healing along the way. Some events are so special that they become once-in-a-lifetime experiences because they mean much more than just music, the artist, or the venue.
