Washington Freedom Crush Seattle Orcas in Bowling Masterclass
Washington Freedom delivered their most dominant performance of the Major League Cricket season, dismantling the Seattle Orcas by 8 wickets after bowling them out for just 82 runs in 10 overs. The victory, powered by a clinical bowling display from Glenn Maxwell, Saurabh Netravalkar, and Jack Edwards, boosted Freedom’s net run rate and playoff positioning while dealing a major blow to Seattle’s postseason hopes.
Freedom Bowlers Set the Tone Early
Freedom wasted no time asserting control. Saurabh Netravalkar struck with the first ball of the match, removing Shayan Jahangir. In his next over, he dismissed Seattle captain Sikandar Raza, and from there, the collapse unfolded rapidly.
Glenn Maxwell tore through the middle order, taking three key wickets in quick succession. He removed Aaron Jones, Steven Taylor, and Kyle Mayers, all known for their explosive potential. Jack Edwards cleaned up the lower order to match Maxwell and Netravalkar with three wickets of his own.
Only Heinrich Klaasen offered resistance, scoring 48 runs and becoming the only Seattle batter to reach double digits. His effort proved to be a lone stand as the Orcas were bowled out for 82, their lowest total of the season.
Calm Chase Secures Easy Win
With a modest total to chase, Freedom approached the target with composure. Rachin Ravindra scored 32 off 23 balls and partnered with Mukhtar Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 36 off 21. The pair added 42 runs for the second wicket, ensuring the chase stayed on track after the early loss of Mitchell Owen.
Freedom reached the target in just 9.2 overs, finishing with 64 balls to spare. The emphatic win lifted their net run rate and put them level on points with San Francisco Unicorns at the top of the table, sitting second due to net run rate.
What This Means for the Playoff Race
- Washington Freedom now holds 14 points and looks poised for a strong finish in the league stage with momentum on their side.
- Seattle Orcas, previously riding high on a three-match winning streak, must bounce back immediately. They face the Texas Super Kings on Saturday evening in a do-or-die match that could decide the final playoff spot.
- With this loss, Seattle’s playoff hopes become uncertain, especially as MI New York pushes forward after a convincing win over LA Knight Riders.
