Du Plessis Century and Hosein’s Spin Power Texas Super Kings Into MLC Playoffs
In front of a packed crowd at Grand Prairie Stadium, Faf du Plessis delivered his second century of the season and Akeal Hosein weaved a clinical spell of left-arm spin to guide the Texas Super Kings to a 39-run win over MI New York. The all-round performance sealed Texas’ spot in the 2025 Major League Cricket playoffs and kept their unbeaten record at home intact.
Du Plessis Leads from the Front
After an early setback with Smit Patel falling to George Linde, du Plessis anchored the innings with poise and aggression. He reached his half-century in just 21 balls, targeting the Powerplay overs with crisp strokeplay against a strong MI New York attack featuring Trent Boult, Ehsan Adil, and Linde.
Once Marcus Stoinis joined him at the crease, the Texas captain shifted into gear, smartly rotating the strike and picking off boundaries. Stoinis struggled to find rhythm and eventually fell to Rushil Ugarkar, but his dismissal brought in Donovan Ferreira, who transformed the game.
Ferreira’s 53 off 20 balls matched the fastest fifty in MLC history and took pressure off du Plessis, who continued to build his innings. Together, they pushed Texas to a towering 223 for 4, with du Plessis finishing unbeaten on 103 off 56 balls—his second hundred of the season and eighth in T20 cricket.
Hosein and Texas Bowlers Seal the Win
Chasing 224, MI New York faltered early. Star batter Nicholas Pooran, fresh off a century in the last game, was dismissed for just 5 by Nandre Burger. Hosein followed with a match-defining spell, taking 3 for 15 and removing key batters Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock during the middle overs.
Kieron Pollard briefly threatened to turn the match with a stunning counterattack, smashing 70 off 39 balls including a brutal 22-run over against Noor Ahmed. But his late surge was not enough as the run rate ballooned out of reach.
With support from Stoinis and Burger, Texas continued to chip away at the MI New York lineup. The visitors ended on 184 for 9, falling short by 39 runs.
