March Highlights: A Look Back at Last Month in Cinema

March was a historic month for South Asian cinema, with box-office records, major OTT debuts, and a handful of streaming titles worth catching up on.

Theater Highlight: Dhurandhar: The Revenge

Ranveer Singh’s spy epic Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the concluding chapter of Aditya Dhar’s duology, released on March 19, coinciding with Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and Eid al-Fitr, immediately began rewriting box-office history. The film opened to massive demand, with strong numbers on its opening day and sustained momentum in the days that followed.

OTT Highlight: Border 2 on Netflix

Directed by Anurag Singh, the war epic stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, and depicts the coordinated operations of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.

The film expands on the scale of the original franchise, covering Operation Chengiz Khan while bringing a broader perspective to the story. It continued to draw attention following its theatrical release, with audiences engaging with it again on streaming.

For those who missed it in theaters, this is the month to watch it.
