San Francisco Unicorns Name Cameron White as Head Coach for 2026 Season
The San Francisco Unicorns have confirmed a major leadership change ahead of the 2026 Major League Cricket season, promoting former Australia international Cameron White to the role of Head Coach. White previously served as the team’s Assistant Coach during the 2025 campaign and now steps into a full‑time leadership position as the franchise prepares to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! for its fourth MLC season.
A Natural Progression for Cameron White
White brings extensive experience as a former Australian batter and all‑rounder who played across formats and captained his national side in limited‑overs cricket. His work with the Unicorns last season earned strong support within the organization, particularly for his approach to player development and match preparation.
His promotion reflects the franchise’s confidence in the coaching structure already in place and the continuity they want to maintain as they build toward long‑term success.
Replacing Shane Watson
White takes over from Shane Watson, who guided the team through its first three seasons, including a run to the 2024 MLC Final and consecutive playoff appearances. With White stepping in, the Unicorns aim to strengthen their planning and performance systems throughout the year rather than only during the season.
A Year‑Round Role With Broader Responsibilities
As Head Coach, White will oversee:
- Player development programs
- Performance planning and analytics integration
- Scouting and roster evaluation
- Coordination with Cricket Victoria, a key partner in the team’s talent pipeline
This expanded role is designed to give the Unicorns a more consistent structure as they prepare for the 2026 season.
Ownership’s Perspective
Co‑owners Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan expressed strong confidence in White’s leadership qualities and alignment with the franchise’s long‑term direction. They highlighted his understanding of the squad, his coaching style, and his ability to build on the progress made over the past three seasons.
Looking Into the 2026 Season
With a core group that includes Matt Short and Finn Allen, the Unicorns are aiming to return to the postseason and make another run at the title. White’s appointment signals a commitment to stability, development, and a more structured approach to team building.
