Sanskar Savvy on the Ground: A Week of Cricket and Culture in Broward County
From July 1 to July 6, Sanskar Savvy was front and center as Major League Cricket took over Broward County for the final week of the 2025 regular season. With playoff spots on the line and cricket legends showcasing their talent, South Florida transformed into the heart of American cricket. Our team showed up to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! with the action both on and off the field.
A Week of Matches That Mattered
With the playoffs looming, every match in Broward County shaped the standings. Rain delays, tight finishes, and high-pressure showdowns made this the most dramatic chapter of the season. From team selection gambles to standout individual performances, the final week delivered big.
Washington Freedom rose to the top of the table with clutch performances from Glenn Maxwell and Andries Gous. Maxwell led with the ball, taking key wickets and keeping the scoring in check. Gous calmly finished the chase in their final match to secure the top playoff seed.
Texas Super Kings found their form at the right time. Faf du Plessis powered the batting with a brilliant 91, while Adam Milne produced a five-wicket masterclass. Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Ranjane added balance and control, helping Texas climb to second place.
MI New York snuck into the playoffs with critical wins over the LA Knight Riders. Kieron Pollard played the finisher’s role to perfection, while Trent Boult’s fiery spells set the tone early. Though they lost their final match, their net run rate held up to push them past the Seattle Orcas.
San Francisco Unicorns entered Florida in a strong position after six straight wins earlier in the season. But two losses at Broward, including a narrow defeat to LA Knight Riders, dropped them to third. Their only Florida win came by one run against Texas, keeping their playoff dreams alive.
LA Knight Riders missed the playoffs but ended with a bang. Andre Fletcher lit up the final day with the only century in Florida, scoring 118. Rising star Karthik Gattepalli made headlines with three wickets on debut. Their final performance gave fans something to remember.
Fourth of July: A Double Header to Remember
July 4 was electric. Fans came out in full force for a double-header that featured live drummers, waving flags from across the cricket world, and back-to-back matches filled with tension. Legendary players like Pollard, Du Plessis, and Maxwell shared the spotlight as fireworks lit up the night sky in celebration of both cricket and country.
The Sanskar Savvy Experience
The Sanskar Savvy team spent the entire week at Broward County Stadium. Some of us watched our first-ever live cricket match. We connected with players, cheered with families, shared food with new friends, and learned from the incredible team at Major League Cricket. This was more than a week of games. It was a moment of community and culture, and we were proud to be a part of it.
