Rohit and Virat’s Final Match Ends in a Nine-Wicket Victory for India

India’s white-ball tour of Australia kicked off on October 19, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is across iconic venues like Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne. Running through November 8, the series invites fans to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! with the thrill of high-octane cricket as both teams embrace exciting new chapters.

In a commanding display of skill and sentiment, India defeated Australia by nine wickets in the third One Day International at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25, 2025. The match was not only a showcase for fans to witness history but also a farewell to two of its greatest players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Rohit’s Century of Grace

Rohit Sharma stole the spotlight with an unbeaten 121, marking his 33rd ODI century and 50th international hundred. His innings was a masterclass in timing and placement, peppered with elegant drives and powerful pulls. It was a fitting tribute to a career that has defined India’s white-ball dominance for over a decade.

Kohli’s Redemption Arc

After two consecutive ducks, Virat Kohli returned to form with a composed 74*, partnering with Rohit for a 168-run stand. His innings was a blend of urgency and finesse, highlighted by a signature straight drive off Mitchell Starc that drew roars from the crowd. Kohli’s knock reminded fans of his unmatched consistency and hunger for runs.

Bowling Brilliance

India’s bowlers set the tone early, restricting Australia to 236. Harshit Rana led the attack with figures of 4/39, while the spinners applied pressure in the middle overs, despite a solid start from Matt Renshaw (56) and Alex Carey. Australia’s innings unraveled under disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.

A Farewell to Remember

As the match concluded, the atmosphere turned emotional. With this likely being Rohit and Kohli’s final ODI on Australian soil, fans and players alike paid tribute. Standing ovations, warm embraces, and heartfelt applause marked the end of an era.

“I’ve always loved coming here… and a nice way to finish getting that knock and getting that win as well,” said Rohit. “I don’t know if we’ll be coming back to Australia, but it was fun all these years that we played here. A lot of good memories, bad memories. But all in all, I’ll take the cricket that I played here.”

“We want to say thank you,” Kohli concluded. “We’ve loved coming to this country and playing in front of such big crowds. And we’ve played some of our best cricket here as well.”

Though India lost the series 2-1, this victory felt like a celebration of legacy more than a contest.
