A New Wave of Shreya Ghoshal
Shreya Ghoshal has been loved by audiences since her debut song at just 16 years old, and is an inspiration to many artists worldwide. She is widely acclaimed for her sweet vocals and proficiency across genres, contributing to some of the most memorable songs in South Asian music.
With a career in Indian cinema that spans almost three decades, Shreya has made some distinct changes in recent times. She has expressed her love for songwriting and creating music that is ‘more close to her heart’. Sanskar Savvy hopes to Celebrate, Explore, Connect! with her journey so far and keep audiences connected with Shreya’s new and upcoming exciting projects.
Shift Toward Independent and Experimental Music
Having worked closely in film music since her debut “Bairi Piya” in SLB’s Devdaas (2002), Shreya is now approaching and embracing work outside of playback. In the past few years, fans have seen Shreya step into collaborations and projects that are noticeably different from her earlier work in playback.
Tracks like “Yimmy Yimmy” with Tayc and “Thodi Si Daaru” with AP Dhillon represent her engagement with artists on a global South Asian music scene, combining her classically trained Indian vocals with more contemporary pop influences. She also recently shared a cover of her first-ever English-language performance, with Coldplay’s “Fix You”. With these releases, Shreya is expanding her image as an artist and shifting to more genres and styles, bringing a fresh change for her fans.
Inside Shreya Ghoshal’s First Live Album from the All Hearts Tour
Building on this shift, Shreya has recently released her first-ever live album with Sony Music India. With this, she became India’s first female artist in three decades to release a live album, which expertly captures the beautiful essence of her voice, the atmosphere of the show, the audience interaction, and the memorable experience of a live concert. She recalls it as a way to preserve their love for the show and to give it space to be on its own, even after it ended. This builds yet another special connection between Shreya and her fans, as this live album preserves the moments and emotional depth of her live performances.
The album features a progression of some of her most successful songs over the years, performed live at her “All Hearts Tour”, such as “Samjhawan”, “Deewani Mastani”, “Hasi”, and more. The album captures her vocal variations as she sings live, with the crowd cheering in the background, recreating the concert feel. It almost acts as a tribute to her Hindi playback music journey thus far, as she’s currently approaching a more diverse body of work.
Evolving Sound and New Music Direction
What stands out about Shreya’s latest and upcoming projects is not just the songs themselves, but the timing and progression. After excelling within the playback industry, she is choosing to evolve in new formats and musical styles, expanding her already impressive body of work. Shreya has also talked about her first EP, which will give us another glimpse into her personal world of music and how she will shape her own sound and style. Her loyal fanbase is eagerly awaiting this EP, giving fans who weren’t able to attend be a part of the show, and fans who did attend the chance to relive it. This live album is just the next step in her incredible legacy, marking a shift toward a more personal phase of her artistry.
