Pollard and Pooran Power MI New York Into the Final
MI New York’s playoff surge continued last night as the Caribbean duo of Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran led their squad to a statement 7-wicket win over the Texas Super Kings. With the victory, MI punches their ticket to the 2025 Major League Cricket Championship Final, set for Sunday night against Washington Freedom.
The crowd in Grand Prairie witnessed a classic Pollard finish, one that shifted momentum the moment he stepped onto the pitch. After Texas put up 166, the chase looked dicey when Monank Patel fell with 84 runs still needed off 46 balls. But Pollard silenced the stadium with a towering six on his very first delivery. The veteran then unleashed a 22-run assault in the 17th over, sealing the game with brute force and precision.
Captain Nicholas Pooran played a more composed role. After a tough season by his standards, he returned to form just in time, anchoring the innings with a calm half-century and building vital partnerships that kept MI New York on track. His unbeaten 89-run stand with Pollard proved to be the match-winning moment.
On the Texas side, Akeal Hosein and Donovan Ferreira brought some firepower late in the innings, rescuing their team from 85/5 to a competitive total. Faf du Plessis started strong but fell after a gritty start, while MI’s Tristan Luus turned in a standout bowling performance with 3 wickets.
Despite a strong regular season, Texas Super Kings end their campaign just short of the final. MI New York, on the other hand, heads into the championship match with serious momentum and fan energy behind them.
