Is The Brownprint AP Dhillon’s Most Ambitious Project Yet? Find Out Here!
AP Dhillon celebrates Punjabi culture with his latest EP, The Brownprint. He blends Punjabi rhythms with global sounds like hip-hop and Afrobeats, pushing the boundaries of traditional music. Released through Republic Records, the EP showcases Dhillon’s ambition to elevate Punjabi music globally. He connects with a broader audience by collaborating with icons like Gunna and Ayra Starr.
Dhillon shared his vision for The Brownprint on Instagram, stating, “I’m calling my EP The Brownprint because I want to show our community that there are many avenues to put out Punjabi music. It’s about thinking of the bigger picture and building a legacy for future generations.” This theme runs throughout the nine-track EP as Dhillon fuses traditional Punjabi elements with modern beats, appealing to Indian-American Gen Z and millennials.
In “Brownprint,” Dhillon teams up with Shinda Kahlon to create a gritty anthem that celebrates loyalty and resilience within the Punjabi community. “Losing Myself,” featuring Atlanta rap star Gunna, explores love, heartbreak, and personal loss. Dhillon’s father, Rashpal Singh, wrote the lyrics for this track, marking his songwriting debut and adding a personal touch.
“Bora Bora,” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, fuses Punjabi and Afrobeats, breaking cultural and musical boundaries. Dhillon’s production team, including DŹŁ, Luca Mauti, and AzizTheShake, crafted a polished yet innovative sound that combines trap and R&B.
In the “Old Money” music video, Dhillon directs Bollywood veterans Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, demonstrating his expanding artistic range. The video’s high-energy action scenes reflect his cinematic creativity and vision.
Since his breakout hit Brown Munde, Dhillon has consistently expanded Punjabi music’s reach. The Brownprint serves as his next leap as he strives to make Punjabi music a global phenomenon, similar to the rise of Latin music. He aims to bridge cultures and transcend language barriers. In a recent interview, Dhillon emphasized, “It’s no longer about creating history; it’s about building a legacy for future generations.”
As Dhillon continues to rise, The Brownprint lays a foundation that connects future generations with the rich traditions of Punjabi music while celebrating its evolution. For Indian-American Gen Z and millennials, this EP reflects Dhillon’s drive to “Celebrate, Explore, Connect!” with the global music community.
