A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam Reunite for “Thug Life”
A.R. Rahman returns to the studio with Mani Ratnam for Thug Life, adding another chapter to one of Indian cinema’s most influential creative partnerships. The first single, “Jinguchaa”, showcases their signature style which is bold, rhythmic, and rooted in both tradition and innovation. Featuring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR in full form, and vocals by Vaishali Samant, Shakthisree Gopalan, and Adithya RK, the track blends folk textures with a sharp contemporary pulse. With lyrics by Kamal Haasan, the song captures the spirit of celebration that Rahman knows how to amplify like no other.
At the Chennai launch, Rahman described the experience of composing for the film as intense and creatively charged. Scoring each scene felt like stepping into a silent conversation with Kamal Haasan, whose performance pushed Rahman to meet every moment with precision and imagination. He emphasized that Thug Life breaks away from the shadows of Nayakan and embraces a modern, forward-thinking sound that reflects Mani Ratnam’s evolving cinematic language.
As the film approaches its June 5 release, Sanskar Savvy continues to celebrate the artists who define generations, explore the relationships that shape iconic stories, and connect fans to the voices driving South Asian cinema forward.
