Garba for a Cause: Dance to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Garba for a Cause: Dance to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Sanskar Savvy invites you to an evening of radient energy, music, and culture at the Pink Glam Garba event to celebrate tradition, explore culture, and connect with our community. This unique gathering offers a chance to immerse yourself in the traditional Indian folk dance Garba. It unites the community to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer—a cause close to many hearts.

Continuing our mission to empower and connect the South Asian community, Sanskar Savvy is proud to support Pink Glam Garba, an event hosted by three friends—Jigna Solanki, Niti Chadha, and Sonia Patel—who have been personally impacted by breast cancer. Through this heartfelt initiative, they aim to bring the community together for an evening of cultural celebration while highlighting the importance of early detection and support for those affected by the disease.

Event Details:

Spearheading the event is Sonia Patel, a breast cancer survivor who, after her diagnosis, was the first in her family to discuss her BRCA+1 mutation openly. Her determination to raise awareness within the Indian community is a testament to the power of shared stories and communal support—values Sanskar Savvy holds dear.

What is Garba?

Garba is a traditional Indian folk dance, often performed in a circle, symbolizing the cyclical nature of life and the feminine divine. The word “garba” derives from the Sanskrit term “garbha,” meaning “womb.” Traditionally, this dance is performed around a clay lantern with a light inside, known as a “garbha deep,” symbolizing life and the feminine form of divinity. Garba is more than just a dance; it’s a celebration of life, community, and spirituality.

Supporting BRCAStrong

All proceeds from the Pink Glam Garba will go to BRCAStrong, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports women affected by breast and gynecological cancers. BRCAStrong offers financial support for routine monitoring or preventative surgery to uninsured or underinsured women. Their work has created a sisterhood of “Previvors, Thrivers, and Survivors,” offering education, support, and advocacy at no cost to recipients.

This event is an opportunity to enjoy a night of cultural richness and community bonding and contribute to a cause that impacts countless lives. By participating in Pink Glam Garba, you’ll be celebrating tradition, exploring new connections, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
